Hello, my name is Ben and I make jewellery using semi-precious gemstones and precious metals. I like working with gemstones and minerals that are said to have properties that may may give release from stress or to help in other ways. For example, I designed the beautiful necklace above to relate to the seven bodily chakras using my favourites of the various gemstones that are suggested to be able to restore balance to your mind and body. You can find out more about chakras here and you can check out the necklace itself in my shop. As well as semi-precious gemstones, I also incorporate Swarovski crystals and pearls into some of my designs to great effect and, since August this year, I have been developing a new collection that combines lustrous natural freshwater pearls with different gemstones hand-knotted onto pure silk cord. I’m also looking forwards to 2021, which will see the introduction of a collection of pieces that incorporate genuine sapphires, emeralds and rubies, and a fun collection of silk tassel earrings and necklaces . Please get in touch for further details or join my newsletter here.
I work from my home in the beautiful county of Durham and all of my designs are hand made solely by myself, using the highest quality materials that I can source from ethical UK suppliers. I also source and use high quality hand made elements from two of my fellow artisans, lampwork beads by jo and louise goodchild designs, both of whom you can check out by clicking on the links. One of my current favourite pieces incorporates a glass heart from Jo, that I have made into a pendant for a beautifully bright necklace that also has a sterling silver clasp made by Louise.
Barneycraft takes it’s name from the smallish market town where I first started, as do a lot of makers, to string beads together to make gifts for friends and family and my first paid commission was to design and make several unique necklaces for my mother to give as Christmas gifts to friends and daughters-in-law.
Please send me a message if you’d like to talk about anything you’ve seen on my website, if you have an idea for something that I could make just for you; or just to have a chat.
